Dirksen, Everett McKinley

(4 ene. 1896, Pekin, Ill., EE.UU.–7 sep. 1969, Washington, D.C.).

Político estadounidense. Luego de prestar servicios en la primera guerra mundial, regresó a Illinois como hombre de empresa. Se desempeñó en la Cámara de Representantes (1932–48), donde votó en contra de la mayoría de las medidas del New Deal y mantuvo su postura aislacionista hasta que EE.UU. entró a la segunda guerra mundial. Más tarde perteneció al senado (1950–69), donde en 1959 pasó a ser jefe de la minoría. Se destacó por su oratoria. Aunque conservador, apoyó la aprobación del Tratado de prohibición completa de los ensayos nucleares,ley sobre derechos civiles fundamentales de 1964 y la ley de derecho a voto de 1965.
